Chewy announced on Wednesday that it would be launching BarePup, a dog fur removal cream. The pet product supplier announced in a press release that it would release the cream in a monthly subscription service directly through Chewy’s website.
“Many dogs experience discomfort from outdated fur standards, and Pet Parents deserve modern grooming solutions for modern pet grooming problems,” said the press release. “When applied monthly, BarePup provides your dog increased aerodynamic efficiency, improved visibility of muscle definition, and better heat tolerance. Most importantly, your dog no longer has to abide by centuries-old, fur-based beauty standards.”
The benefits of the treatment extend to dog owners, with the company mentioning allergy mitigation, easier tick inspection, shedding reduction, and improved cuddle efficiency. “Pet Parents have been asking for smoother, cleaner-looking dogs for years, and now BarePup can offer the sleeker dog you’ve always wanted.”
While the monthly treatment offers many alleged benefits for both dogs and dog owners, Chewy acknowledged several potential side effects. “Some dogs may look unsettling while Pet Parents are getting used to the smoother and aesthetically improved pet,” said the company. “Certain dogs may be unrecognizable during this acclimation period. Do not apply to genetically hairless dogs. Some pet owners initially report feelings of unease; however, most acclimate to their dog’s improved appearance within two to three weeks.”
At the end of the statement, Chewy teased BarePup+, a premium, permanent dog hair removal solution involving periodic laser hair removal treatments and a proprietary polishing technology to offer “the next level of dog smoothness.” The upgraded service will allow Pet Parents to choose from matte, satin, or gloss coat finishes for their animal. More details will be released on BarePup+ this summer.
